Pedigree Technologies Cab-Mate ELDs Offer Greater Flexibility for AG Exempt Drivers
A fleet operating in both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors faced challenges in managing ELD compliance for drivers working within a 150-air-mile radius of agricultural sites. Under the AG Exempt rule, commercial motor vehicle drivers are exempt from Hours of Service (HOS) regulations when transporting agricultural commodities during state-designated planting and harvesting periods or when hauling farm supplies under specific conditions. However, the fleet's previous ELD solution required drivers to remain in either AG Exempt or regular driving mode for the entire day, complicating the transition between work types. To account for delays during extended unloading wait times, the company needed a system to ensure drivers received appropriate compensation for the additional hours. Using Pedigree Technologies' customizable "Build Your Own" work order forms, the company enabled drivers to mark directly on the form whether they had to wait and for how many hours during each delivery. Connecting work order form data with their payroll system enabled the company to automate the calculation and inclusion of delay time compensation.
